Vinho Ferreirinha Reserva Especial 1962 75cl

This is one of the great classics of Portuguese table wines. This wonderful red from the Douro Valley was bottled as Reserva Especial when it was thought not up to the quality standard of the legendary Barca Velha, a special table wine from the Douro Superior region first produced in 1952. This bottle of 1962 is so decadent and so rich with a meaty, dried strawberry and floral character on the nose and palate. It shows flavors of ripe cheese too plus hints of lemon grass. It’s full-bodied with sweet and round tannins. Fabulous now. A legend in the history of Portuguese table wines. Wonderful. James Suckling 95 points.
