2009 Vintage Port Taylor’s 75cl

2009 será lembrado como sendo um ano em que os rendimentos foram muito baixos. Isto deveu-se em parte à pequena quantidade de fruta produzida pelas vinhas e também ao efeito da temporada de maturação que foi muito seca. O abrolhamento deu-se na primeira semana de março. Todas as castas mostraram baixa fertilidade, embora a vegetação fosse saudável e vigorosa. O pintor (mudança de cor nas uvas) também ocorreu mais cedo do que o normal.

A temporada de maturação começou com tempo relativamente frio, que continuou assim ao longo de julho; porém, agosto foi intensamente quente. De julho até à vindima, em setembro, quase não se registaram chuvas. Estas condições quentes e áridas produziram mostos concentrados, ricos em cor, taninos e açúcar.

O ano produziu vinhos de grande escala, não muito diferentes dos icónicos vinhos do Porto vintage do século XX. São vinhos feitos para durar.

NOTAS DE PROVA: Preto, quase como tinta da china, com auréola púrpura. Nariz de grande pureza, abrindo numa nota vigorosa de fruta do bosque preta e concentrada, enlaçada com framboesa e ameixa. Em torno deste denso núcleo frutado, com a sua atraente vivacidade e mineralidade, há uma aura perfumada e complexa de flor de laranjeira e fragrâncias a ervas silvestres do tipo menta e alfazema. Suportado por um apertado envoltório de taninos densos e nervosos, a boca explode com sabor de fruta preta madura e concentrada, a qual surge no longo final, antes de ser tomada por um apertado abraço tânico. Um vinho que consegue combinar a estrutura maciça e o poder da fruta da vindima de 2009 com equilíbrio, elegância e refinamento.

AVALIAÇÃO:

Púrpura enegrecido. Muito rico, redondo e emocionante. Denso e puro. Tem a estrutura própria de um mestre de escola em termos de costas direitas e estrutura firme. Muito longo, firme e emocionante – certamente uma aposta de longo prazo com acrescido encanto inicial, presumivelmente da colheita excecionalmente quente e seca. Pontuação: 18 (Jancis Robinson, Purple Pages)

2009 Vintage Port Taylor’s 75cl

A vintage Port wine which manages to combine the massive structure and powerful fruitiness of the 2009 harvest with elegance, poise and finesse.

2009 will be remembered as a year of very low yields. This was partly due to the small amount of fruit and also to the effect of the very dry ripening season. Bud burst started in the first week of March. All vine varieties showed low fertility although the vegetation was healthy and vigorous. Vérasion (colouring of the grapes) also occurred earlier than usual.

The ripening season started with relatively cool weather which continued throughout July but in August this turned to intense heat. From July right through to the harvest in September, there was almost no rain. These hot, arid conditions produced concentrated musts, rich in colour, tannins and sugar.

The year produced Vintage Ports of massive scale, not unlike the iconic vintage ports of the twentieth century. They are port wines built to last.

TASTING NOTES: Inky black with purple rim. A nose of great purity opening on a vigorous note of concentrated black woodland fruit laced with raspberry and plum. Around this dense fruity core, with its attractive vibrancy and minerality, is a fragrant and complex aura of citrus fruit blossom and wild herbal scents of mint and lavender. Supported by a tight warp of thick sinewy tannins, the palate explodes with concentrated ripe black fruit flavour which surges into the long finish before being gripped in a tight tannic embrace.

ACCOLADES
Blackish purple. Very rich, round and thrilling. Dense and pure. A bit of a schoolmaster in terms of straight back and firm structure. Very long, firm and thrilling – surely a long term bet with additional early charm, presumably from the exceptionally hot, dry vintage. Score: 18 (Jancis Robinson, Purple Pages)
