Um icónico e raro Vinho do Porto. Escuro, cor vermelha concentrada. Maravilhoso nariz com aromas de cerejas e alperces. Na boca é muito rico com notas de madeira e frutas escuras. Final longo.

Guimaraens 1976 – o vintage mistério

Este Guimaraens foi declarado num ano em que muito poucas casas fizeram Vintage, havendo referência de um Quinta de Vargellas e um Malvedos e pouco mais. O ano anterior tinha sido “clássico” mas esse 1975 acabou por se revelar um flop na generalidade do sector, um vinho que nunca deveria ter sido declarado e que é hoje se mostra, regra geral, demasiado ligeiro e frágil, o que contraria a lógica da declaração de um “clássico”. Este 1976 Guimaraens, desde o seu lançamento, mas sobretudo desde o final dos anos 80, veio a revelar-se um “monstro” na positiva acepção da palavra. Concentrado na cor, de enorme estrutura, faltando-lhe em delicadeza o que lhe sobrava em raça e energia. Foi por isso muito apreciado pela crítica e também muito “comprado” já que o preço era muito conveniente e a disponibilidade no mercado era a que se quisesse. Recordo que, na época, nem Bruce Guimaraens nos conseguiu explicar bem a origem daquelas uvas e, assim, o 1976 ficou sempre como eterno enigma. Na prova agora levada a efeito, mostrou-se de novo grandioso e explosivo, com uma concentração de cor que só se repetiu no 1998. Neste aspecto de vigor e estrutura é para mim é um dos Vintage memoráveis do século XX, sobretudo por esse lado inexplicável que lhe estará sempre associado. Nenhum dos vinhos agora provados na vertical se assemelhou no perfil ao “monstro” de 76. Também já tive oportunidade de provar alguns 1976 menos surpreendentes mas aí entra o factor “rolha” a estragar a festa. Para sorte de todos os presentes na prova, este estava absolutamente grandioso. (JPM)

Guimaraens 1976 – the mystery vintage

This Guimaraens was declared in a year in which very few houses made Vintage, with references to a Quinta de Vargellas and a Malvedos and little else. The previous year had been a “classic” but this 1975 turned out to be a flop in most of the sector, a wine that should never have been declared and which today appears, as a general rule, to be too light and fragile, which goes against logic. the declaration of a “classic”. This 1976 Guimaraens, since its launch, but especially since the end of the 80s, has revealed itself to be a “monster” in the positive sense of the word. Concentrated in color, with enormous structure, lacking in delicacy what it had in strength and energy. It was therefore highly appreciated by critics and also very “bought” since the price was very convenient and the availability on the market was whatever you wanted. I remember that, at the time, not even Bruce Guimaraens was able to explain to us well the origin of those grapes and, therefore, the 1976 always remained an eternal enigma. In the tasting now carried out, it once again proved to be grand and explosive, with a concentration of color that was only repeated in 1998. In this aspect of vigor and structure, for me it is one of the memorable Vintages of the 20th century, especially on this side inexplicable that will always be associated with it. None of the wines now tasted vertically resembled the “monster” of 76 in profile. I have also had the opportunity to taste some less surprising 1976s, but then the “cork” factor comes in and ruins the party. Luckily for everyone present at the test, it was absolutely grand. (JPM)
