1989 Vintage Porto Quinta do Vesuvio 75cl

Depois de um inverno com menos da metade da precipitação média, seguiram-se chuvas esporádicas durante a primavera. O final de julho e o início de agosto foram excepcionalmente quentes, com temperaturas atingindo 42oC na sombra. Foi então que a falta de chuva de inverno começou a se fazer sentir. Principalmente nas zonas mais orientais do Douro Superior, onde as vinhas começaram a dar sinais de stress com folhas a morrer e a cair. A colheita começou nas áreas mais avançadas por volta de 7 de setembro, cerca de três semanas antes do normal. Nos dias 8 e 9 de setembro, caiu uma forte chuva inesperada e, em poucos dias, tanto os rendimentos como as leituras de açúcar aumentaram drasticamente, pois as videiras absorveram a umidade e floresceram sob o clima quase perfeito que se seguiu.

Notas de prova: Cor granada. Aromas deliciosos de fruta madura. Paladar notavelmente equilibrado de frutas maduras e taninos suaves. Final suntuoso e persistente, suave e elegante.

After a winter of less than half the average rainfall, there followed sporadic rain during the spring. Late July and early August was exceptionally hot, with temperatures reaching 42oc in the shade. It was then that the lack of winter rain started to make itself felt. Particularly in the more easterly areas of the Upper Douro, where the vines started to show signs of stress with leaves dying and falling. Picking started in the more advanced areas on or about 7th September, about three weeks earlier than usual. On the 8th and 9th September unexpected heavy rain fell, and within a few days both yields as well as sugar readings rose sharply, as the vines absorbed the moisture and flourished under the almost perfect weather that followed.

Tasting Notes: Garnet colour. Lovely mature fruit aromas. Remarkably balanced palate of ripe fruit and soft tannins. Sumptuous lingering finish, smooth and elegant.
