Notas do Ano Vitivinícola: O inverno de 1979/80 foi um dos mais secos de que há registo. Uma primavera fresca atrasou um pouco a floração, tendo mesmo havido alguns problemas com a formação dos bagos em uma ou duas áreas da região demarcada. O verão foi cálido e seco. Houve alguma precipitação nos dias 19 e 20 de setembro, mas o tempo foi seco e extremamente quente.

As temperaturas caíram para voltar ao normal no início de outubro, tendo a maior parte da vindima decorrido em excelentes condições. As uvas estavam sãs e uniformemente maduras, com níveis de açúcar altos, mas não excessivos. Apesar de, logo no início da vindima, algumas fermentações terem ocorrido de forma mais rápida, a generalidade dos mostos apresentaram excelente cor e corpo.

The company’s Vintage Port wines come from its own farms: Cruzeiro and Santo António, in the Pinhão valley, which contributed to the company’s Port Vintage batch for 100 years, as well as the Panascal farm, in the Távora valley.

Notes from the Wine Year: The winter of 1979/80 was one of the driest on record. A cool spring delayed flowering a little, and there were even some problems with the formation of berries in one or two areas of the demarcated region. The summer was hot and dry. There was some precipitation on September 19 and 20, but the weather was dry and extremely hot.

Temperatures dropped to normal at the beginning of October, with most of the harvest taking place in excellent conditions. The grapes were healthy and uniformly ripe, with high but not excessive sugar levels. Although, at the beginning of the harvest, some fermentations occurred more quickly, most of the musts presented excellent color and body.

In areas where, in spring, there had been some problems with the formation of berries, yields were low and the musts were, correspondingly, rich and concentrated.
