Em 1963, o inverno frio foi seguido por uma primavera húmida. No dia do Natal, as temperaturas atingiram -4º C, um dos valores mais baixos em muitos anos. Com a exceção de dois períodos de tempo quente em julho e agosto, o verão foi fresco. A vindima começou a 7 de outubro com tempo perfeito, dias quentes e noites frescas.

NOTAS DE PROVA: Um vinho do Porto Vintage marcante e uma referência para muitos que tiveram a sorte de o beber. Na cor, é surpreendentemente mais jovem do que o 1960, com reflexos ainda remanescentes a rubi. Profundo, intenso, riqueza da Borgonha. No início, o álcool é bastante avassalador. Logo, o chocolate escuro começa a surgir, seguido por qualidades de erva, flor da esteva, alcaçuz, caixa de charuto e couro que aparecem claramente na boca e por um ligeiro caráter medicinal. Persistência média.

CLASSIC VINTAGE 1963
A landmark vintage and reference for many who have been lucky enough to drink the Taylor’s 1963 Vintage Port. It is surprisingly more youthful in colour than the 1960.

In 1963, a cold Winter was followed by a wet Spring. Christmas Day temperature of -4ºC was one of the lowest for many years. Apart from two periods of hot weather in July and August, the Summer was cool. The harvest started on 7th October with perfect weather, hot days and cool nights.

TASTING NOTES: Ruby highlights surviving in the colour. Deep, intense, Burgundian richness. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, gum cistus, licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. Medium length.

ACCOLADES
The giant 1963 is as equally marked by the character of the year as the house style. The great strength and amazing backbone are supported by extraordinary fruit, with toffee, burnt coffee and a very long finish. It is softening and, dare I say it, even gentle – Taylor’s tamed. Serena Sutcliffe
