Solicitou-se ajuda à empresa Romariz para esclarecer o ano da colheita (1834 ou 1934) que não conseguiu precisar.

De facto existe a garrafa onde consta no rótulo 1834 o que não é aqui o caso, pois que a mesma só apresenta “34”. Provavelmente trata-se do mesmo vinho (colheita de 1834) engarrafada em alturas diferentes.

A razão social Guimaraens Vinhos S.A.R.L. só foi usada entre 1964 e 1986. Segundo informação contida na brochura da Romariz, a firma terá sido adquirida pela Guimaraens em 1966. pelo que a garrafa terá, assim, de ser anterior àquela data.  Uma hipótese para apenas ser usado “34” e não 1834 é que, quando a firma Romariz foi absorvida na Guimaraens, o vinho terá transitado para os novos donos mas não a conta corrente, daí a rotulagem não poder indicar o ano. Assim, não é impossível que se trate do mesmo vinho descrito de duas formas diferentes. A rotulagem indica que se trata de um «colheita» e não um «vintage», pelo que o vinho deveria encontrar-se na altura em casco e não em garrafa.

Dado a não confirmação formal quanto ao ano da colheita, opta-se por designar o ano de 1934 e não 1834.1934 Colheita Port Romariz Nº1 Especial Old Wine 75cl

The company Romariz was asked to help clarify the year of colheita (1834 or 1934) that it could not specify.

In fact there is the bottle that counts on the label 1834 which is not the case here, since it only has “34”. It is probably the same wine (1834 harvest) bottled at different times.

Company name Guimaraens Wines S.A.R.L. it was only used between 1964 and 1986. According to information contained in Romariz’s brochure, the firm was acquired by Guimaraens in 1966. The bottle must therefore be earlier than that date. One hypothesis for using only “34” and not 1834 is that when Romariz was absorbed in Guimaraens, the wine would have been carried over to the new owners but not the checking account, hence the labeling could not indicate the year. Thus, it is not impossible to treat the same wine described in two different ways. The labeling indicates that it is a ‘harvest’ and not a ‘vintage’, so that the wine should be in the cask rather than in the bottle.
Given the non-formal confirmation as to the year of harvest, it is chosen to designate the year 1934 and not 1834.
